| Kristi and Shelly, your positive energy worked - I passed comps!!!! Woooooohoooooo! The relief I felt at 12:30 yesterday was palpable. And perhaps the best thing about it is that I didn't make a total fool out of myself in the oral exam; I didn't give any answers that make me want to vomit now, and even though I fumbled with a few questions, I felt that on the whole I did well.
As a reward, I put up my Christmas decorations last night, though halfway through I got really tired. When I went to bed at midnight, I realized that I'd been awake for 18 hours. I slept the sleep of the innocent and feel much better. Although I have a ton of grading to do, I still feel free! And it's only a week and a half until Steven gets here!!!! And then Christmas!!!!! *Dances*.

| As usual, I've been neglecting my Xanga journal, but this time I have an iron-clad excuse: I've been getting ready for my comprehensive exams, which are today. I have a little over three hours to live. Seriously, I'm so nervous about this that I might just puke in the middle of it. Send me positive waves, if you have any to spare!

| For any of you who might be wondering about my safety, I'm totally fine. My apartment in Iowa City is well away from the flooded areas, and I still have power and everything. Steven is here (yay!), and I'm really glad I fetched him this past Tuesday, because now getting to Chicago would be an impossible nightmare. A friend of mine has been evacuated from his apartment and is staying with us, which is a bit frustrating given that I only see Steven twice a year, but my friend can't help that his apartment building is flooded! We're bunkered down now, waiting for the water to recede. I just wish I could lie around with no pants on!

| I've completed my summer subterfuge - i.e. coming home without telling my sister Libby and showing up at her little boy's birthday party to surprise her. The party was awesome - we even got my mom in the big inflatable jumpy thing. Unfortunately, I now have a raging sunburn on my arms.
I'm home for about three weeks, then I'll go back and fetch my mup from Chicago and have him for about three and a half weeks. This summer has got to be all about getting ready for comps, which will blow a bit, but by Thanksgiving I should be done and I'll be a much happier person. wOOt wOOt.
I'm exhausted. I still haven't recovered from Thursday, when I got up at 5:30 to give my students their final exam, then graded their exam and turned in grades, then drove for 6 hours. Then I drove all day Friday as well. I'm a sleepy muppet.
